For the last several years, Build Iowa has been working to assist the commercial construction industry in solving their workforce shortage issues through the Build Iowa initiative. Part of this process has been acting as an intermediary to fulfill companies’ desire for more connection and interaction with their local school districts.
To further our efforts in this area in 2019, Build Iowa hosted career fairs for the second consecutive year. These events were held on three separate occasions in Cedar Rapids, Cedar Falls, and West Des Moines and were free of charge for any schools and students in 11th & 12th grade, as well as community college. The events helped to connect more than 290 students with 55 contractors from around the state of Iowa.
Build Iowa views these events as a way to continue in our mission of serving the workforce needs of the commercial construction industry while also assisting in the establishment of long-term relationships between companies and their local school districts.
Build Iowa is planning to host another round of career fairs in early-April 2020.
